Appraisals and Valuations

Edigem values jewellery, set and loose gemstones and watches.

Edigem examines and appraises jewellery and gemstones brought to us in accordance with recognised gemmological criteria. For more extensive gemmological tests and certification the company collaborates with independent laboratories such as the Gübelin Gem Lab, SSEF and GIA.

Insurance appraisals
The insurance value of a piece of jewellery reflects the cost of replacing the item from a jewellery retailer at the current retail value. We estimate the price at which a similar piece can be bought from a jeweller. The insurance value is also known as the replacement or reproduction value.

Probate and estate appraisals
The probate value reflects the estimated price that could be realised in a voluntary sale within a reasonable period of time. The probate value often equals the value of the material plus a mark-up dependent on the direct sales opportunities.

Realisation sales appraisals
The realisation value is usually based on the value of the materials. It reflects the price an item may be expected to realise within a minimum time period of one month from the valuation date.

Commercial sales appraisals
The commercial value reflects the current sales price either retail or wholesale at an average market level if the seller has several weeks or even months in which to make the sale. The commercial value equals the value of the materials plus a mark-up that is dependent on expected sales opportunities.

Fees
EDIGEM bases its fees on its expertise and the complexity of the work required. We would be happy to provide you with an estimate of the costs of your appraisal.
